Careers at the Dakota Hotel - reception

I joined Dakota Edinburgh in March 2013 for a summer internship to gain experience in both the Grill and Reception before attaining a part-time role when I went back to university, which was very flexible throughout my studies. I was then offered a position on the Development Program which resulted in me becoming the Assistant Restaurant Manager in Dakota Deluxe Glasgow in early 2016.

Since then, I gained experience in HR and become a Duty Manager in Dakota Deluxe Leeds, before being promoted to Deputy Operations Manager in by returning to Glasgow in early 2018. My entire career has been built at Dakota and I’ve seized every opportunity given to me here.

Development programs

At Dakota, the only limit to your success is your own drive.

Our Operational Development Program was created for people passionate about food and beverage as a means to accelerate the careers of talented, hard-working and ambitious individuals.

Our 12 to 24 month schedule focuses on building knowledge by working within the bar and grill, invests in service-focused internal and external training, as well as leadership skills.

We are dedicated to developing individuals with personality and ambition, irrespective of age or experience. Show us your personality, demonstrate your enthusiasm for working in a team, and prove your leadership skills.

You don’t have to have chosen the academic route, if you’ve found your calling in hospitality with over two years’ experience, then apply.

If you are committed to a career in hospitality and have at least two years’ experience working in food and beverage, please apply with a cover letter and CV to the hotel you wish to be based in.

Student opportunities

We offer student internships offering working experience based in the bar, grill, or housekeeping a minimum of 12 weeks.

Chefs Section

We run our kitchens from the chopping board, not the clipboard, allowing seasonal ingredients to shape our menu and adopting cooking techniques to showcase the best produce available.

The Grill at Dakota dispels the notion that luxurious hotels and fantastic dining experiences have to be pretentious or traditional. Dakota’s ‘old-school’ formality combined with a ‘new school’ edge brings great style and creates a bustling and vibrant atmosphere.

We offer Chef Apprenticeships to individuals passionate about cooking, even with little previous experience. Everything is made in house, providing ample opportunity to prepare produce to the highest standard.

Your on-the-job training will include using classic cooking techniques to create dishes, all whilst keeping a safe and hygienic working environment and ensuring the strictest levels of food safety.
